Sustainability Statement

1. Introduction

DataOps IT Ltd recognises that technology businesses have a direct and material impact on the environment. The infrastructure we manage, the cloud platforms we operate on, and the way we run our own business all carry an environmental footprint. We take that seriously.

This statement sets out our current commitments and actions in relation to environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and governance. It is published in the spirit of transparency and accountability — not as a marketing exercise, but as an honest account of where we are, what we are doing, and what we intend to improve.

This statement is aligned with the UK Government's Net Zero Strategy, the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) framework, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relevant to our sector. It is reviewed annually by our Board of Directors.

2. Our Sustainability Commitment

DataOps IT Ltd is committed to operating as a responsible business — one that considers its environmental and social impact alongside commercial performance. Our commitment is built on three pillars:

Environmental: Reducing the carbon footprint of our operations and the services we deliver to clients.

Social: Supporting our people, our supply chain, and the communities in which we operate with fairness, inclusivity, and respect.

Governance: Embedding sustainability into our decision-making, procurement, and reporting processes with clear accountability at board level.

We do not claim to have all the answers. We are a growing business, and our sustainability programme is maturing alongside us. What we commit to is continued, measurable progress.

3. Environmental Responsibility

3.1 Energy & Carbon

The most significant environmental impact of a data and cloud services business comes from the energy consumed by the infrastructure underlying our services. We address this in the following ways:

  • We prioritise cloud service providers — including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud — that have published and verified commitments to renewable energy and carbon neutrality. When advising clients on cloud strategy, environmental performance is included as an evaluation criterion alongside cost and capability.
  • We encourage and support remote and hybrid working across our team, reducing commuting-related emissions.
  • Our own office energy consumption is monitored, and we are working towards sourcing electricity from renewable tariffs for all direct office usage.
  • We are in the process of establishing a baseline measurement of our Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions, using this as the foundation for setting a formal reduction target in our next annual review.

3.2 Hardware & E-Waste

  • We extend the lifecycle of hardware wherever technically viable, avoiding premature disposal of devices that remain functional.
  • When hardware reaches end of life, we use certified IT asset disposal (ITAD) providers who comply with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013.
  • We avoid procuring unnecessary physical infrastructure by default, favouring cloud-native and software-defined solutions that reduce the physical hardware footprint for both DataOps IT and our clients.

3.3 Sustainable Cloud & Database Operations

As a managed database and cloud services provider, we have a direct opportunity to help clients operate more efficiently — and efficiency is, by nature, environmentally beneficial. Specifically:

  • Database performance optimisation reduces unnecessary compute consumption, lowering the energy cost of running client workloads.
  • Cloud migration projects managed by DataOps IT typically result in clients consolidating from on-premises infrastructure (which is often less energy-efficient) to modern cloud environments with higher utilisation rates and better power usage effectiveness (PUE).
  • We advise clients to rightsize cloud resources and switch off idle workloads — practices that reduce cost and carbon simultaneously.

3.4 Paper & Waste

  • We operate a digital-first approach to documentation, contracts, and internal communications.
  • Where physical waste is generated in our office environment, we provide facilities for recycling and responsible disposal.

4. Social Responsibility

4.1 Our People

Our people are our most important resource. We are committed to providing a working environment that is safe, fair, inclusive, and supportive of wellbeing. Specific commitments include:

  • Fair and transparent pay practices, reviewed annually.
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements as standard, supporting work-life balance.
  • Access to training, professional development, and industry certifications for all employees.
  • A zero-tolerance approach to harassment, bullying, and discrimination in the workplace.
  • Mental health awareness embedded into our people management approach.

Further detail on our approach to diversity and inclusion is set out in our separate Diversity & Inclusion Statement.

4.2 Supply Chain & Procurement

We recognise that sustainability extends beyond our own operations into the suppliers and partners we work with. We are committed to:

  • Giving preference, where commercially viable, to suppliers that can demonstrate responsible environmental and social practices.
  • Ensuring that all suppliers engaged in the delivery of our services comply with applicable UK law, including the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Further detail is set out in our Modern Slavery Statement.
  • Including sustainability considerations in our supplier selection and review processes.

4.3 Clients & Community

  • We aim to provide honest, evidence-based advice to clients on the sustainability implications of their technology choices — including the energy cost of different database architectures, cloud configurations, and data retention strategies.
  • We support digital inclusion by engaging with educational and community initiatives relevant to the technology sector where capacity allows.
  • We operate transparently and publish our policy statements publicly, enabling clients, regulators, and the public to hold us to account.

5. Governance & Accountability

Board-Level Oversight

Sustainability is a board-level responsibility at DataOps IT Ltd. Our Chief Operations Officer holds executive accountability for the delivery of this statement and reports progress to the Board on an annual basis.

Annual Review

This statement is reviewed every 12 months. Each review will assess progress against the previous year's commitments, update targets where appropriate, and set new actions for the coming period. Where we have fallen short, we will say so clearly.

Targets for 2026–2027

The following are our stated commitments for the current period:

  • Complete a baseline Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions assessment by 31 December 2026.
  • Transition all direct office electricity supply to a verified renewable energy tariff by 31 March 2027.
  • Ensure 100% of hardware disposals are processed through a WEEE-compliant ITAD provider.
  • Include environmental criteria in all cloud provider and major supplier selection decisions.
  • Publish an updated Sustainability Statement — including progress against these targets — by 1 April 2027.
  • We do not publish targets we cannot measure or verify. As our data and reporting capability matures, we intend to set more detailed and ambitious targets in future years.

6. Continuous Improvement

DataOps IT Ltd is committed to improving its sustainability performance year on year. We will benchmark our practices against relevant frameworks — including the GRI Standards, ISO 14001, and the UK Government's guidance for SMEs on net zero — as appropriate to our size and sector.

We welcome feedback from clients, employees, and partners on our sustainability approach. If you have comments or questions about this statement, please contact us directly.
